The Trustee of your superannuation arrangement has outsourced the administration of your superannuation account to Plum Financial Services Limited (Plum). Plum respects your right to privacy and protection of your personal information. We are bound by the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth) and any relevant Health Privacy Principles under State legislation, as well as other applicable laws and codes affecting your personal information. Our staff are trained to respect your privacy in accordance with our standards, policies and procedures.

This Privacy policy outlines how we manage your personal information. It also describes:

  • The purposes for holding that information
  • How that information is collected, held, used and disclosed

The types of personal information Plum holds

Plum, on behalf of the Trustee of your superannuation arrangement, collects and holds information necessary to administer your superannuation account and to provide you with information related to that account.

The information collected may include your name, postal or email address, date of birth, Tax File Number (TFN), health information, bank account details (when you are eligible to receive a superannuation benefit payment) or other information Plum considers necessary to administer your superannuation account.

The Trustees' privacy policy/statement is included in the Product disclosure statement (PDS) for your fund.

Using and disclosing your personal information

In line with modern business practices, common to many financial institutions, and to meet your specific needs (such as where you have a financial adviser), we may disclose your personal information to the organisations described below. Where your personal information is disclosed we will seek to ensure that the information is held, used or disclosed consistently with the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth), any relevant Health Privacy Principles under State legislation and other applicable privacy laws and codes.

The relevant organisations are:

  • Those involved in providing, managing or administering your superannuation account such as third party suppliers, printers, posting services and our advisers
  • Other entities in the National Australia Group of companies who facilitate compliance with legislation
  • Your financial adviser, legal adviser or insurer if you have authorised us to provide the information
  • Those involved in maintaining, reviewing and developing our business systems, information, procedures and infrastructure including testing or upgrading our computer systems
  • Those involved in a corporate re-organisation
  • Those involved in the transfer of all or part of the assets or business of Plum
  • Those involved in the superannuation, investments and insurance payments system including financial institutions, merchants and other payment organisations
  • Your representatives including your legal advisers
  • Those required or authorised by law, e.g. government or regulatory bodies related to public health or safety, ones who facilitate the prevention or detection of unlawful activities or protect public revenue
  • Ones for whom you have given your consent

Your personal information may also be used in connection with the above purposes. From time to time you personal information may be used by entities related to the Trustee to assist you with other financial services.

Because we operate throughout Australia and overseas, some of these uses and disclosures may occur outside your State or Territory and/or outside of Australia.

The Plum website

We take care to ensure that the personal information you give us via our website is protected. Our website has electronic security systems in place, including firewalls and data encryption. User IDs, passwords and other access codes are also used to control access to your personal information.

Security on our system

At Plum, we provide a secure online experience (once you have logged on) to all members of superannuation funds administered by Plum. We use the latest encryption technology to protect your information. In every instance where your personal information is accessed via our website, we encrypt it using the latest encryption technology to maintain its integrity. We use Server Gated Cryptography (SGC) – an extension of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology – to encrypt information, and we recommend you use a compatible 128-bit browser like Internet Explorer 5.5, Mozilla Firefox 2 or Safari 3 to navigate our site.

Visitors to our website can tell the page they are viewing is secure by looking at the icon at the bottom of their browser. In Internet Explorer 5.5, Mozilla Firefox 2 and Safari 3, a locked padlock appears at the bottom of the browser when the connection is via a secure link.

Developments in security and encryption technology will be reviewed regularly. Where necessary, we will remind our clients that the Internet is an insecure medium.

Gaining access to your personal information

You can gain access to your personal information. This is subject to some exceptions allowed by law. Factors affecting a right to access include:
